I always get the question on IG ‘what workout do you do when you don’t have much time or much equipment?’ This is a great question as I actually love these types of workouts as I can get creative and sometimes I get the most out of them because they are short, sharp and you use all of your body.
I decided to share with you one of my favourite workouts which I do myself on a weekly basis. Because sometimes I don’t want to go to the gym, class or have to think much about a big gym session. I just want to get a good sweat on, target my whole body and then get on with the rest of my day. The best part? I can do it anywhere, anytime. I have done it in the gym, at home and outdoors. You don’t need any equipment. Just your body, your phone timer and a whole lot of fun energy!
I usually do just bodyweight exercises specially if I am traveling and have only a small space in a hotel room, but sometimes I add a medicine ball, booty bands or dumbbells to it.
Some days I alternate high intensity cardio exercises like burpees and squat jumps , with lower intensity core exercises like moving plank and butterfly sit ups. Other days I switch between upper body, lower body in-between the high intensity cardio moves. I design it to what I want to do and burn that day.
30sec on 10sec rest x2 rounds. Having the short rest periods mean that I don’t have time to think, and give up. I just do around 10 exercises one high intensity cardio straight in to one lower intensity/body weight exercise and do this until I have completed all of the circuit. Having the variety also makes it fun and really challenging.
I use this work out at least once a week!
Here is an example order of 10 exercises I may do:
Plank shoulder taps
1 squat jump peddle backwards with high knees and keep repeating
Alternating step ups or if no step then just lunges
Give it and go and let me know how you get on! I love hearing when you guys have tried my workouts :). For more workouts visit and follow my IG page @_roxyfit_ . We loved San Francisco as a city! I went with such a open mind as I has heard so many mixed reviews. Some people were disappointed and others absolutely loved it. For me it did not disappoint. It is so diverse with its beaches, many hills, fun & different area districts to explore and bustling city streets. It has so much character and we had a fabulous time exploring it. My advice to you if you are planning the same trip is to do what I did and do your research well. Plan some of your daytime activities and dinners in advanced as it makes your stay go smoothly as things do get booked up quickly and you don’t want to miss out on anything.
They serve exclusively 100% organic ingredients, ethically raised organic meats and sustainable seafood. This was seriously good. Definitely our favourite brunch restaurant. All of the ingredients in my salad brunch bowl tasted so fresh and there was such a variety to choose from. I made my own salad bowl which is something I love to do as you know exactly what you are getting and it is even better when the restaurant has all of the ingredients you want and more. There smoothies and juices are to die for.
Bowl’d Acai have three food trucks spread across San Francisco. They serve up a small menu of acai bowls, juices and smoothies which I actually really liked as sometimes I am overwhelmed by choice. I went for the Original Gangster bowl, except I replaced the granola with goji berries as I cant have granola and I just cant resist goji berries :). It was still super sweet and delicious. My husband went for the ‘These Nuts’ and he said they smother it in nut butter, which he definitely wasn’t complaining about!
This little gem we actually stumbled past on our first day whilst walking down Chesnut st. Which is also a street I definitely recommend for you all to stroll down. It has a cool LA vibe to it but a lot more laid back. We were starving and this was just the place I needed to see. From its large selection of grain bowls to freshly made soups and homemade sandwiches. We both selected our own bowl which was cool and it again was so tasty and fresh which kept us full until dinner time. I love also the barn chic decor inside which made it unique.
If you have to take one restaurant from this list this is one to take. As it is is super unique, fun, delicious and very reasonably priced. I loved how you could still be eating outside but extremely warm from the heaters and sheltered either side from the buildings. And then they had kept the original movie screen which was running old movies in the background. And when you gazed up you had these really pretty fairy lights. I will most definitely be paying Foreign Cinema a visit again. I recommend the Pacific ahi crudo tuna as it so tender and juicy.
We had previously tried this restaurant in San Diego and raved about it. Then to our surprise when looking for best fish restaurants Roy’s popped up again. It is an excellent seafood restaurant with delicious meat options too. I was super excited because I usually can’t eat sushi rolls as I am really intolerant to rice. At roysrestaurants they were super accommodating and made me the rolls wrapped in cucumber 🥒💕such a great combo as it has a crunch to it & it’s super light & a healthy option 👌🏼. Inside the cucumber was lobster & avocado with Tobika! My husband had the Classic Four which was fantastic as he got to have the black cod which I have had from here before and its amazing but also all the other wonderful fish dishes Hibachi Grilled Atlantic Salmon – Misoyaki “Butterfish” Blackened Island Ahi – Roasted Macadamia Nut Mahi Mahi.
I had read about this place a lot so knew I wanted to put this on our list. We were super lucky to get a reservation as it gets booked up very quickly. It is a delicious Mexican restaurant which is 100% vegan. Our favourite dishes included the Bowl Dos – lentils, mushrooms, spinach, peanut sauce, coconut brown rice, pico de gallo. Platanos con Mole Negro 16 Fried plantains topped with mole, cashew cream and sesame seeds. Served with beans and tortillas. Try adding some pineapple salsa and avocado is so dreamy
Let me know if you hit any of these places up by tagging me in your social media posts!
Where we worked out
We were only there for the 3 days so this gave us very little time to try and explore new classes. However I did make it to one class.
Ritual hot Yoga. This fabulous yoga studio was such a great find and perfect to do after getting off a flight. It might not look like much when you first walk in but the class was amazing. It reminded me a lot of Y7 with the candle lit atmosphere but they had an assistant who came round to help put you in the right pose and adjust your posture. I really like when teachers do this as I never quite know with Yoga whether I am doing the right thing so this is such a plus for me. The teacher Marissa was super easy to follow and was full of positive and fun energy. Follow her and the studioon IG and Marissa
We also did a 9mile bike ride from our hotel over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito which was one of my favourite adventures with my husband. With breath taking views, hill challenges and seeing one of the wonders of the world at the same time
Lastly I took myself and husband through a hotel room work out which If you click on this it will take you to the video workout ;).
Alcatraz. This historic attraction isn’t to be missed. This island is a mile off the mainland of San Francisco. It was a high security prison, complete with military fortifications, a cell house and a lighthouse. The audio-tour around the cellblock is by far the best audio-tour I have ever done. Book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Cycle to Sausalito. Sausalito is a beautiful seaside town just across the Golden Gate Bridge. Chill out and absorb the laid-back vibes as well as the stunning views of the San Fran sky line and the water front.
Food time. San Fran has an amazing food scene. Don’t forget to also check out the The Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market
Take a Tram. I love the old fashion and beautiful trams that are all across the city . It is another thing that makes this place unique & fun.You can ride one along the water front or through the city centre.
Adventure around. We always love wandering around new cities and exploring & seeing the diferent areas. Our favourite spots included Chestnut, The marina & Pacific Heights.
Golden Gate Park. Why not grab some food at the Farmers market and head on down to the park. It is such a massive green space, over looking the sea and the wonderful golden gate bridge. It is the perfect location to relax and have a picnic in the sunshine!
Stay safe.Be aware of wandering through Tenderloin and down Mission Street at night. These are two of the most dangerous parts of town. Avoid them at night if you can.
The cycle across the bridge to Sausalito, Make sure your up to a good fitness level or feel confident on a bike as it is very hilly to the bridge and on the bridge there can be strong winds.
Hey every one hope your all keeping warm in this very cold winter. If you don’t follow me I live in NYC and this is y 2nd winter living out here. Even though I have come so much more prepared this year it still doesn’t prepare you for that brutal below freezing. Luckly my husband and I booked a trip to San Fran last weekend which was fabulous wow what a beautiful city. And also gave us a break from the cold. Have you got any trips coming up?
I have been meaning to write this blog for a while now as I for one love and know how good it feels to have a fresh pare of workout pants that are the real deal. I wanted to share with you my staple pants I work out in and that never let me down :).I find they are the most flattering, comfortable, long wearing & stylish ones around. All of the brands I mention I wear on a weekly basis and trust. Feeling fierce & fabulous when working out I think is so important for our motivation & the way we approach our fitness sessions.
These leggings fit like a glove, hold you in exactly where needed and never ever move or fall down when working out ( I don’t know about you but that last point is super important at to me. There is nothing worse than sprinting as fast as you can struggling to the end and then your leggings decide to not hold up and your having to forever keep pulling them up mid sprint. Can I get an amen? They are super smooth which is why they give you such a flattering finish.
They change their styles pretty much every 6/8 weeks so you can always switch it up color and patterns. Also watch out for their special offers. Last time I bought a pare I got them for $50 with any sports bra instead of $70 for 1.
I also love the Lulu lemon Fast & Free Bra Nulux to Match the pant. Again it feels so comfortable on your skin but give you great support for any type of exercise. Whilst looking extremely on trend. Another positive, they can be worn casual too. In more than 1 occasion I have gone to brunch after a work out or ran some errands in them ;P dont judge me you know we all do it haha!
I love this brand not only have I been to a couple of events that were held at their Brooklyn store I have also been lucky enough to collaborate with them. As a team they are so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable for what pant is right for you. The Chelsea tight Elevates your look with our form-flattering tight made for a fashion forward workout. With Mesh panel on the calf enhances breathability to keep you cool. Powermesh inner-waistband engineered to feel comfortable and hold you close and Flat seams which move smoothly against your skin.
They have some really fun pattern & designs. Again what I love is how the pant never moves even when your at your sweatiest so again perfect for running or hot yoga .
What I love mostly about their leggings is the style and shape. When I wanted to pick a piece to try it took me forever as I loved every design which is super rare with sports gear. I also love how at the back of the pant at the bottom of your spin the design dips in to a V shape which makes your butt look great and perky . They also have a IG community for women to share their fitness journeys through their apparel. You can also purchase these pants at Bandier online and in store.
Nike I think is a staple piece in any fitness goers wardrobe. No matter how many brands I go to I always end up coming back to Nike. They are a classic. These leggings are like the LuLu pant above as they are so comfortable that you don’t really notice they are their but at the same time they mold to your body giving your the best shape possible for your body type. There is also something about working out in brand new Nike apparel you feel like you can get your fastest sprint, lift your heaviest weight and get that goal you have been wanting to hit month.
I hope you have enjoyed shopping with me and this has given you some inspiration on your next fitness spre. Let me know below your fav sport brands below.
Add either Turkey, shrimp or chicken to the stir fry if you want to add meat.
Start by peeling the carrots and slicing them into thin rounds, then chop the broccolini into roughly three segments. Then place these in a large frying pan with a tablespoon of coconut oil.
Start cooking them while you slice the cabbage into thin threads, the mushrooms into roughly quarters and the red pepper into small cubes and then place them into the frying pan to cook with the carrots and broccolini.
Now put the noodles on to cook.
Once the noodles are nearly cooked stir the spinach into the stir fry along with the tamari, tahini, lemon juice, herbs. Drain the noodles and finally stir them in before serving and enjoying!
When working out most women still want to feel put together & confident. I always find that if you have a new, fresh & funky gym outfit on, you feel so much more motivated and ready to take on a new challenge. I find the same applies with my skin care. I just love to feel like I look more awake, fresh faced and glowing.
If you feel the same, then keep reading below for lots of hopefully interesting and exciting products for you all :). This is what helps me feel good about my self. I am always in fitness clothes for work so I also want to feel pretty and at least half decent, specially when having to train clients. The great thing about this routine too is it only takes me 5mins to put my self together and feel confident. I never skip these skin care steps as this is what also protects my skin from sweat, germs, the sun and dryness.
First thing in my routine is to cleanse, face serum and moisturise. I do this morning and night to keep firstly my pores clear and then hydrated through out the day and night. This I will do every day what ever session or day ahead.
I used to use really expensive cleansers but recently I found this fabulous company FRE Skincare. I now never get spots and keeps my skin matt so I am not to oily and shinny when working out.
With its breakthrough natural Argania Active Complex, a unique blend of organic Argan oil and Argan leaf water extract, enriched with Argan stem cells, FRÉ specializes in combatting workout-induced skin damage and the signs of aging accelerated by the combination of sweat, intense exercise, sun, pollution, and other environmental factors.
I use their 123FRÉ set. For 30% OFF starting from 12/12/17 use my code ROXYFIT at the check out.
It is a comprehensive 3-step routine that creates a clear complexion and a healthy glow. It combats exercise and sweat-induced skin damage: breakouts, dehydration and aging.
FRE 123 set steps
Step 1: Protect Me (2 fl. oz / 60 ml) is an ultra-light SPF30 moisturizer. It is water-resistant, won’t clog pores and won’t sting eyes when you sweat. No white cast.
Step 2: Purify Me (5.07 fl. oz / 150 ml) is a hydrating facial cleanser that prevents and treats breakouts, de-stresses and re-balances skin pH, post-workout.
Step 3: Revive Me (2 fl. oz / 60 ml) is a specialized anti-aging serum that boosts fatigued skin with vitamins and minerals, regenerates collagen and skin elasticity, creating an energized healthy glow.
All products are hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested and non-comedogenic.
Step 2 in my routine
I then go on to using Murad Hydro-dynamic eye cream to keep my eyes hydrated
It gets rid of the puffiness, dark circles, dryness and uneven skin tones and of course fights the first signs of ageing. I love this one as it really does work and I really feel the difference when I don’t use it.
I wouldn’t recommend this for my younger readers, I would recommend this for ages 25+. I do how ever recommend using some kind of eye cream from the age of 21 as it helps prevent and protect. No7 is what I used to wear and It is also a lot more cost effective.
I then love to wear a tinted moisturiser over a foundation when working out as it is more breathable for your skin. It also makes you look more awake and even. The ones that I recommend are :
This keeps things looking natural (even with SPF 30) It is super lightweight, dewy BB yet—a water-like hydrating formula with all the complexion perfecting benefits of our cream in each drop.
Delivers advanced skin-caring benefits: Sodium hyaluronate hydrates and softens fine, dry lines. Broad Spectrum SPF 20 UVB/UVA sunscreen plus a power-blend of antioxidant vitamins C and E help protect skin from the damaging effects of the environment.
The finishing touches
I then finish off dabbing a tiny bit of Nars Illuminator color- Orgasm on my cheeks to get a all over glow. This colour I think compliments most skin types with its rose gold pinky peach tones through it. I always get compliments when wearing this on my cheeks. I even wore this on my wedding day which lasted all day even in the summer heat :).
To make my lips pop and stand out (if you know me this is something I have to have on every day). I always use Estee lauders double wear lip liner in the color Mauve. its the perfect nude rose colour that lasts all day (this thing never budges) with out drying out your lips.
last not not least. I love to finish off this routine with a refreshing setting mist. Belle force – French shower. I also love to carry this around with me in my gym bag as it’s so refreshing specially after a tough workout. French shower is an instantly refreshing post-sweat spritz with refreshing mint ingredients which cools skin on contact, while witch hazel’s antibacterial properties keep things fresh.
In the evening before I use the Fre exfoliator I use an oil based cleanser to melt the make up off my skin and also put oils back in to my skin that I need.
The oil based cleanser I use is the FARMACYGreen Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm with Echinacea GreenEnvy
The balm features sunflower oil and ginger root oil to gently cleanse and nourish the skin for a glowing complexion. Extract of the Moringa tree, a native tree to India and Africa, helps to purify and refresh skin by removing impurities caused by pollution.
At night I then use Astral (thicker moisturiser) which is a real beauty bargain ;). I came across this product in a magazine article and its what Joanna lumley swears by. It only costs $6 and is amazing for hydrating the skin over night.
Before I go to sleep I also use this little beauty
: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate.A replenishing nighttime facial oil with distilled botanicals that visibly restores the appearance of skin by morning. It is also fabulous for using during long haul flights to prevent skin dehydration and it actually really works.
Please feel free to leave me a comment on products you like to wear and if any of these products have worked for you. I love to hear from you all :).
If you would like to book a personal training session with me on or off line contact me by the contact page on this website :).
Worried about staying fit this winter? No worries, don’t panic I have all the tips you need in this blog to get you kick started and to keep you fit this year 😉
Tip number 1. Plan your week ahead
To start off here is tip number one for staying motivated in the winter and it’s a very important one. If there is a favourite gym/group class you can do before or after work during the week, put that into your diary like you would any other arrangement. Use your weekends for longer workouts that you can do during the day or integrate with other commitments. If you are parents and the kids are older and busy playing rugby, football or tennis, use that time to go for a walk or run until their game is finished.
When planning your workouts try and find a purpose for them so If its running to work then make sure you warm up inside by doing some dynamic stretches and exercises to get your heart rate up so by the time your outside your already warm, awake and ready to go.
2. Tune your alarm.
Rather than a normal, annoying alarm clock, use your iPod or similar device to play specific songs that get you going. It doesn’t need to be your a loud club mix but just something that lifts your mood and energy. This will do wonders for your ability to get out of bed on the first try.
3. Get new work out gear
I always like to invest in some funky and also practical work out gear at this time of year, it seems to give me that boost to get up and go to the gym or outside to work out. Its like when you buy regular new shoes you can’t wait to get them out and show them off, well running shoes and clothes should make you feel the same way :). It is also a great excuse to hit the shops again.
4. Try a new class or work out programme.
Trying a new work out or programme really helps you feel motivated and also improve your fitness levels. Keeping variety in your work out is the best way to improve your fitness and hit your goals specially when your wanting to lose weight and tone. The other good thing about this is if you invest in to a block of sessions or work out programme then you are more likely to keep going and turning up because you have paid for it. Also trying something new that you enjoy also makes your work outs less effort and more enjoyable.
5. Now try my new work out.
I have put a workout together which is short and sharp which should definitely get you motivated and get you out of those winter blues.
Perform each exercise for 30secs with a 15sec rest in-between each exercise. Repeat circuit 3 times. Check out my IG for more workouts and motivation.
6. Find a training buddy
Find someone who will commit to joining you in the your workouts, and hold you accountable for showing up. Knowing someone is waiting for you to share the pain of the early darkness might be just the stimulus you need to throw back the covers and get out of the house. Knowing I have someone to meet makes my workout way more fun and means I can’t bail out!
Another great idea is to get a group of friends together on either day of the weekend to go on a long walk /jog, arrange a park to walk to and then set up a mini circuit you can do at a park near by that you can all do together. Then to follow that go for a delicious healthy brunch place that you can all head to afterwards, this way you can explore lots of different restaurants at the same time ;). Make it more of a social event than thinking “dreaded weekend work out.” When you have work out buddies it makes it so much easier to stay on track and push each other so that no one falls off the wagon.
I hope you have enjoyed my how to stay motivated in the winter series. Please leave me a comment if you have enjoyed reading this and if you would like more content like this on my blog :). I look forward to hearing how you all get on with my workout.
I hope you found my latest LA blog useful and enjoyable to read. From LA we then took the ocean pacific highway to San Diego.
We set off at 11 so that we missed the rush hour traffic (as this can be ridiculously frustrating). Our first stop was Newport beach in Orange county. Not only had we heard amazing things about Orange county my husband and I were secret fans of ‘The OC’ tv show when we were growing up so this was very exciting to see where it all took place. What a cute and relaxing seaside town. I had research a few breakfast places we could try out and we ended up choosing the Banzai bowls (wow). We hadn’t had a smoothie or acai bowl since we got to Cali and this was for sure worth the wait. Not only do you get generous portions (which we needed as we had hit the gym before we set off) the choice is endless. They were really helpful and let me add and remove ingredients too so it felt very customised, which I really like to do other wise you think to your self ‘ I could just do this at home better ;P’. It was delicious and if you are heading that way I highly recommend feasting on a Pitaya bowl.
Our second stop was Laguna beach. This a place I have always wanted to visit after researching on best beaches in Cali. It was such a stunning place and what I adored was the cliffs that over looked the beautiful long stretch beaches. On our way there we stopped at a few coves we liked the look of a long the way before we hit the main beach which is more vibrant. Each little bit of the beach we explored were more and more beautiful. Once we hit Laguna main beach we walked a long it and stubbled past a few cute cafes and bars. We found a lovely hotel bar which was right on the waters edge for a cocktail and to watch the surfers. It was so wonderful and the sunset was breath taking I felt very grateful right then for this experience and being able to travel and find these amazing spots. The bar was at Hotel Capri .
San Diego is famous for beautiful beaches, great weather year-round, bustling craft brewery scene, and countless outdoor attractions. With over 100 days of sunshine each year, it’s no wonder they consider it America’s finest city!
What we did :
Hiked in the wonderful Torrey Pines State Park. After being highly recommended by (Karuna apparel who I did the fitness shot with in LA) to Hike at Torrey Pines State Park. This hike has multiple different trails that are all pretty mild, each with a gorgeous views of the ocean. So put on your hiking shoes,Bring your camera fully charged and take in the breath taking sights and sunsets. I will be definitely doing another one of the hikes here when we return its just stunning. Learn about the history of San Diego at the museums in Balboa Park or visit the animals at the San Diego Zoo. Housing over 3,700 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies. Its a parent organisation, San Diego global, is one of the largest zoo’s in the world.
Hit the Street Markets: Find great food, produce and local artisan crafts at these markets: North Park (Thursdays), Ocean Beach Farmers Market (Wednesdays), Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market (Saturdays), La Jolla Open Aire Market (Sundays).
Beach Cities: We checked out Ocean Beach, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach each offer a unique beach scene. Check out each beach for fun cafes, beach bars, great shopping and San Diego sunshine!
La Jolla: My favourite spot in San Diego (Its so beautiful, chic and loads see) We went for a spot of brunch then walked and explored La Jollas coves and beaches to then come across loads and loads of sea otters sun bathing on the rocks. You will always be able to spot them so make sure to go to the cove to see some wild Otters and the babies are super cute. You can also for a truly one-of-a-kind experience, visit Nurtured by Nature and swim with the otters! This non-profit organisation provides fun animal encounters for tourists and children with special needs. We didn’t get the chance to do this but next time its high up on our list.
Coronado Island: We Crossed the famous Coronado bridge over to San Diego’s resort island. We then Visited the Hotel del Coronado for a incredible diner. The seafood was delicious really fresh and tasty. And the views were fantastic from this location on the island. Next time I want to go in the day time and explore around the town.
Gaslamp Quarter: Gaslamp is home to San Diego nightlife. Grab a glass of wine or cocktail after dinner at any of the bars and people watch, prepare to be amazed and surprised. And if you have more than a couple cocktails there are plenty of bar/clubs to fall in to and dance the night away.
Our favourite eating spots:
Cafe Graitude – Order the buckwheat pancakes with a side of coconut yogurt its sooo yummy.
Codys – This is in La Jolla and what we loved immediately was the ambience and views of the ocean and town.they offer amazing salad bowls, eggs dishes and smoothies.
Coaterra : The views from this restaurant were the best of them all. You were right on the water looking back at the sky line of down town San Diego. I love how they had a seafood twist to the mexican menu. It is definitely one to add to your list for a romantic evening.
Roy’s Restaurant : At the Marriot – Again on the water front looking out on to the ocean. Defiantly book a table outside as the atmosphere is lovely and its a lot more special. Excellent sea food or meat options. I had the Black cod which I cant recommend enough.
Run along Sail bay at Mission beach and then on to Pacific beach for wonderful sights of Sand Diegos beaches to watch people sail boating and paddle boarding whilst you run past.
I also one of the days got all the family to the beach to do my Beach bootcamp workout which was lots of fun and we all ran in to the sea afterwards. Try this workout on your next vacation.
We again were fortunate and had a gym in our accommodation so a lot of the time we worked out there.
It is also a hub for lots of fitness classes so you will never be short to find a great Yoga, pilates or hiit class.
In reflection and to sum it up we will just have to go back as there is still so much to see, do and eat haha and I just cant wait to go back already :).
Please let me know if you used any of my recommendations for your trip to LA or San Diego and don’t for get to follow me on Instagram and my instastory where I post weekly workouts, recipes and health tips.
LA is a place I have had on my to visit list since I can remember so I was extremely excited when me and my husband planned this trip. It was even more exciting because now we have been living in NYC for almost 11months we have met so many people who have raved about LA and given us so many wonderful and interesting recommendations and ideas. My advise to you guys if you are planning the same trip is to do what I did and do your research well and plan some day time plans and dinner plans in advanced as it makes your stay go smoothly and you then don’t miss anything out.
What we did:
Hike: I have seen so many other bloggers and friends go on and on about the amazing hikes in LA. I saw the pictures and had to make this at the top of my priority list. There are tonnes of hiking trails throughout LA so again do your research but the one we loved was to the hollywood sign view point. It is a fabulous workout with the most awesome views. Hike through Griffith Park and up to the Observatory for a beautiful view of the famous sign and this is the shorter hike of the 3 around the sign. If you haven’t got that much time or don’t like to hike more than 1 hour I would recommend to stop there.
I wanted to do the full Hike. We had however underestimated how long the Hike to behind the sign and back was, It took us around 3 and a half hours and this would of been better if we hadn’t done it straight after getting off the plane :p (me and my overenthusiastic fitness minded self), at the hottest part of the day and with just one bottle of water. Make sure to come prepared with water as there was only one water station at the start of the trek. Honestly though this lived up to its expectation and more, we were blown away by the view the pierce fulness whilst walking and how big LA is as a city. I will be for sure returning to try more of the hikes around LA. It is a must.
Hit The Beach: LA is surrounded by amazing beaches. Our favourite beach day was where we hired a bike to cycle from Santa Monica pier down to Venice Beach. The pier wasn’t my favourite part but once you leave there and cycle down it’s stunning and beautiful sandy beach to venice beach which its such a vibrant, hippy and entertaining place. A perfect location for some people watching. And of course we had to check out the famous muscle beach where I was extremely proud of my husband for climbing to the top of the rope climb as show here ;p.
I also spent the afternoon shooting with a fabulous active wear brand called karuna Appareal in the beautiful Beverly Hills (my Dream place to live);P.
Karuna is an animal friendly activewear brand that emerged out of two friends’ desire to transform the apparel paradigm. 10% of all proceeds go to animal charities.
Their designs are Stylish, beautiful colours and simple which I love for my workouts. They are offering 10percent off your first purchase online too ;).
Food time : LA is the hub of all things health even more than NYC. There are juice bars on every corner! Their is something for everybody and if you have an intolerance they can cater for anything.
West light for roof top drinks and if you’re wanting to party on it turns in to a club too. It also has a gorgeous pool on the roof top which would be a nice spot in the day time.
Staying fit :
Modo Yoga LA. I love Modo in NYC and one of my favourite teachers from the NYC branch just opened the venice beach LA studio which is very exciting. I couldn’t wait to get back in the studio with her and go through a yoga flow. If you are a big yoga fan then defiantly check out this place and Chelsea’s classes she’s fabulous.
Try my beach workout here in my IG account. Holidays I love to get mix up my workouts get inspired by my surroundings and come up with new ways to keep fit whist away. Makes it feel fun not like something I have to do.
And of course go on a Hike like I mentioned above ;). Fabulous way of seeing the city whilst staying in shape.
Be a tourist:
Shop: Head to the main shopping spots Rodeo Drive and The Grove if you’re feeling spendy.
Stay in WeHo: West Hollywood is centrally located and right in the midst of the LA fitness scene, restaurants, bars and easily excess-able to the beaches and beverly hills.Make sure to leave outside rush hour though as the traffic is mental. We stayed in an air bnb which luckily had its own roof top pool and gym which was handy.
Go round warner brothers studio. Americans do tours so well they keep you entertained and really make you feel like it is worth every penny. We were shocked how many of our favourite programs were filmed on their set and not in the actual city they were actually meant to be in. I won’t spoil the surprise about the one that shocked us the most.
After our stay in LA we went to join my parents in San diego. I highly recommend going to visit San diego, the people are lovely, the beaches are beautiful and again plenty of yummy food gems. If you do go from LA definetly rent a car and take the longer route along the ocean. It really was one of the most fantastic and coolest days we have had. I just loved stopping off a long the way when we wanted and seeing so many diferent beaches, coves and towns.
Next week make sure to check back into read about our trip to San Diego
It’s Soup season and here is one of my favourites. I love having soups for a meal as you can literally get so creative and whip up different veggies and so much goodness in one simple bowl. A quick easy tip for you too make your soup more filling, fuel and have some substance. I like to add in quinoa.
This recipe is one of my all time fav’s as it’s so delicious, creamy, filling and colourful. Enjoy and remember to tag me or leave me a comment if you do re create this recipe ;).
• 800 grams cut pumpkin (about 5 cups)or pumpkin puree (if you dont have pumpkin you can use butternut squash
•4 carrots, peeled and chopped
•2 garlic cloves
•1 teaspoon fresh ginger
•1 teaspoon ground cumin
•½ teaspoon curry powder
•½ teaspoon paprika
•2 tablespoons olive oil
•2 cups vegetable stock
•Water to boil the veg
1.Peel and cut the pumpkin and carrot into cubes. Place in a large saucepan and cover with water. Simmer over a medium heat until the vegetables are tender.
2.In the mean time dice the onion, crush the garlic and ginger.
3.In a large saucepan over a medium heat place the olive oil and add the onion, garlic and ginger. Saute for 3 minutes.
4.Add the curry powder, paprika and ground cumin and stir, sauteing for a further minute.
5.Add the vegetable stock to the saucepan and simmer for five minutes until all the ingredients flavours have combine.
6.Drain the pumpkin and carrots and add to the saucepan of simmering stock.
7.To blend the ingredients into a smooth soup you can either use a wand/stick blender or you can place all the ingredients into a food processor.
8.Whizz the ingredients all together until the soup is smooth. Return to the saucepan and simmer for a few minutes and serve. I like to add Pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and a drizzle either tahini or dairy free coconut yogurt.

I find giving my clients a fitness weekly planner has made huge positive changes. They feel like they have a routine and feel accountable to both themselves and me.
Another problem you have if you don’t plan your workouts in your weekly planner is that you waste energy thinking and stressing about when you will fit your workouts in that week. This will then cause you to resent your workouts and get tired. Take that stress away by preparing for the week ahead of you!
If there is a favourite gym/group class you can do before or after work during the week, put that into your diary like you would any other arrangement. Use your weekends for longer workouts that you can do during the day or ingrate with other commitments. If you are parents and the kids are older and busy playing rugby, football or tennis, use that time to go for a walk or run until their game is finished.
When planning your workouts try and find a purpose for them so ff its running to work then make sure you warm up inside by doing some dynamic stretches and exercises to get your heart rate up so by the time your outside your already warm, awake and ready to go.
2. Spice up your workout wardrobe
I always like to invest in some funky and also practical workout gear. It seems to give me that boost to get up and go to the gym or outside to workout. Its like when you buy new shoes you cant wait to get them out and show them off, well running shoes and clothes should make you feel the same way :). That doesn’t mean you have to slash the cash either, there are plenty of reasonable brands out there now with special offers or ones which are more cost effective.
3. Find a workout buddy
Find someone who will commit to joining you in the your workouts, and holds you accountable for showing up. Knowing someone is waiting for you to share the pain of the early morning darkness might be just the stimulus you need to throw back the covers and get out of the house. Knowing I have someone to meet makes my workout way more fun and means I can’t bail out!
Another great idea is to get a group of friends together on the weekend to go on a long walk, arrange a park to walk to and then set up a mini circuit you can do at a park near by that you can all do together and follow that with a delicious healthy brunch place that you can all head to afterwards. Make it more of a social event than thinking “dreaded weekend workout.” When you have workout buddies it makes it so much easier to stay on track and push each other so that no one falls off the wagon. Another thing I love to do is try out new classes together or fitness events so it seems more of a social event not a workout.
4. Set the right goals
This also works coincide with weekly planning. When you’re planning your week ahead make sure you’re picking the workouts that are for your own individual body goals and what makes you feel at your best. For example if you are wanting to improve your cardio and become lean then heavy lifting is not going to give you that result.
Make sure you are picking goals that are not just for how you look, believe me if you only work out for your appearance you will soon get frustrated because you are not seeing results straight away. I always tell my clients to make a weekly goal and a long term goal. This way you can see more results, get excited when you hit your weekly goal which will then make you even more motivated ;). If you are very new to fitness and don’t even know where to start and what kind of goals you need to set, then I would advice hiring a professional to help you like a personal trainer. I work with people all the time on their new fitness journey, I offer bespoke 6 week online programs which includes goal settings, eating smart and the right fitness programs for your body and mind.
5. Get a killer playlist
Keep Your Music Fresh. There’s nothing worse than going through an hour-long workout in silence….except maybe suffering through bad music that the gym blasts over their speakers. Or the same old music that you’ve had on rotation for weeks. So create a high-energy playlist of stuff you like and remember to change it up regularly to stay motivated.
I love searching on Spotify for different playlists which are going to get me really energised and want to move and jump around because I love the beat so much. This also is part of the planning part of staying motivated. Have different playlists for different workouts which you know will drive and push you to the end of those tough workouts.
6. Have a “Lazy Day” Backup Plan
Invest in the basics for a quick at-home workout: an exercise mat and two 5-pound free weights. That way, when you really don’t feel like making the trip to the gym, you’ll have the resources to spend 30 minutes flexing your muscles at home. Even if you do fewer crunches, lunges, and bicep curls at home, it’s better than skipping out on your workout altogether.
Try this follow along at home hiit workout I posted on my youtube channel for you to all tryhttps://youtu.be/Jl3j14UVW8E
7. Keep a Log
Hang up a calendar in an obvious spot that is devoted solely to tracking your workouts. Every day you don’t work out, mark it with a giant red “X.” If you skip two or three days in a row you’ll be faced with all of those giant “X”s–a visual reminder that it’s time to get your butt in gear.
8. Give Yourself a Real Reward
Sure, some people might be motivated by vague goals such as better health or weight loss But if that’s not doing it for you, make the benefits of working out more tangible, such as by treating yourself to a smoothie or an episode of Game of Thrones (or your favourite show!) afterwards.
Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business describes creating a neurological “habit loop,” which involves a cue to trigger the behaviour (setting out your spinning shoes next to your bag), the routine (making it through spinning class) and then the reward. “An extrinsic reward is so powerful because your brain can latch on to it and make the link that the behaviour is worthwhile,” he explains. “It increases the odds the routine becomes a habit.”
Over time, the motivation becomes intrinsic, as the brain begins to associate sweat and pain with the endorphins— those feel-good chemicals released in the brain that are responsible for that “I-feel-freaking-amazing” rush you get after a fabulous gym session. Once you’ve trained your brain to recognise that the workout itself is the reward, you won’t even want the treat.
I hope this blog has given you some ideas to get you/stay motivated. Please comment below if you have tried any of my tips and they have helped, or you have any others you would like to share with us all :).
